Gummy smile reduction
Gummy smile reduction treatment overview
Are you self conscious about how ‘gummy’ your smile is? Do you find yourself embarrassed and holding back your grin? Well, the great news is that we can use injectable prescription only medicine to correct an overly gummy smile.
The treatment works by targeting the muscles responsible for raising the upper lip when smiling. This helps reduce the amount which the upper lip raises during smiling and thereby limits overexposure of the gum, while still allowing for a beautiful full smile.
It takes around 2 weeks for the treatment to take full effect and provide the relief, and its effects generally last from 4-12 months.
As with all prescription only treatments we arrange a free consultation to discuss how to help you and achieve the best possible results. We can also address any concerns you may have regarding the treatment.
Dr Joe explains gummy smile reduction treatment
Free Consultation
Here at Rejuvenate, we believe the consultation appointment is the single most important step to work with you to deliver the desired results. Initial consultations are free of charge and will be undertaken by Dr Joe Dowie BDS, BSc (GDC 26409).
At this stage, you will talk with Dr Joe to express precisely what you consider your problem areas to be, and how you would like them to be treated. Dr Joe can then talk you through in detail the specific treatments available to tackle your needs and what type of result you would expect to get. This helps to make all treatments safe and reassuringly predictable.
It should be noted that not everyone is suitable for all treatments. The consultation allows us to individually tailor the treatments to your needs. It is only on a successful assessment of your medical history and facial anatomy with a face to face consultation that we will know if you are suitable for gummy smile treatment.
We look forward to meeting you and starting you on your journey to a more confident, refreshed you.

Aftercare instructions
Please take care to follow the following directions:
- Do not repeatedly frown or tense the area for about 1 hour after treatment. This will help the procedure to be more productive by increasing the uptake in the targeted muscles.
- Do not rub or touch the treated area for 3-4 hours.
- Try to remain upright for 3-4 hours and do not lie down.
- Avoid exercise for 3-4 hours.
- Avoid applying makeup to the area for 1 hour. After this, apply makeup gently for the next 24 hours using a light dabbing motion rather than rubbing or spreading action.
- Do not have any facial treatments for the next 7 days. Additional therapies may cause ‘tracking’ of the Botulinum Toxin to neighbouring areas.
- If you have any concerns at all, please contact the practice. We are on North Street, Dudley, West Midlands. Full details on the contact page.
