Anti-wrinkle injections work by relaxing the muscles in the targeted areas thus preventing their ability to clench. It is this clenching which causes the skin to fold and form a wrinkle. The very best anti-wrinkle treatments will help preserve the appearance of your face in its relaxed state at all times.

This brings us to the most common misconception in facial aesthetics: Anti-wrinkle treatments will not remove wrinkles which are present while the face is relaxed. It can, however, prevent the lines from being etched in more profound, and over long term use (multiple treatments spanning years), may slightly soften some of the more superficial wrinkles. Wrinkle removal from a face at rest involves typically either the use of dermal fillers, microneedling, chemical peels or surgery.

The only exception to the above rule are wrinkles formed by a ‘learned habit’ which hold the face muscles tighter than normal. The classic example being ‘smokers lines’ around the lips. Here the constant puckering causes the lips to clench even when the face is at rest naturally. Anti-wrinkle injections can help to relax these constantly clenching muscles and reduce those wrinkles.

What are wrinkle reduction injections?

Wrinkle reduction injections are a prescription only medicine. We gently inject the treatment into the desired area to relax the muscle associated with the wrinkle.
Now the relaxed muscle will temporarily be unable to contract, thus helping the area to appear as it does at rest, while also stopping further wrinkles being etched deeper into the area.

Where can I have anti-wrinkle injections?

Most popular areas to prevent and reduce wrinkle formation are the forehead, in-between the eyebrows (glabellar) and the corners of eyes (crow’s feet). Treatment for these areas can help you preserve a more youthful appearance while allowing the lower face to express a full range of emotions.

How long do the effects of wrinkle reduction injections last?

The effects of wrinkle reduction medication are temporary, lasting between 4-9 months on average.

How quickly can I see the effects of the treatment?

Due to the time it takes for the muscle to soak up the medication, results will be visible from 2 weeks after the treatment. The effects of anti-wrinkle injections can last from 4-9 months on average, with some patients reporting results of up to 12 months.

Does it hurt to have wrinkle reduction injections?

Aftercare instructions for anti-wrinkle injections

Please take care to follow the following directions:

Do not repeatedly frown or tense the area for about 1 hour after the treatment. This will help the procedure to be more productive by increasing the uptake in the targeted muscles.
Do not rub or touch the treated area for 3-4 hours.
Try to remain upright for 3-4 hours and do not lie down.
Avoid exercise for 3-4 hours.
Avoid applying make up to the area for 1 hour. After this, apply makeup gently for the next 24 hours using a light dabbing motion rather than a rubbing or spreading action.
Do not have any facial treatments for the next 7 days. Additional therapies may cause ‘tracking’ of the Botulinum Toxin to neighbouring areas.
